School Dental Program
Our school participates in a Delaware Public Health Dental Program in cooperation with the DeLaWarr Dental Clinic. Students who have Medicaid or CHIP insurance are eligible to participate in the dental program. Students are transported from school to the DeLaWarr Dental clinic by the state service center. The children receive the dental care during the regular school day. A medical history form and transportation permission slip must be returned to the school nurse prior to dental treatment. Forms will be sent home with your child during the month of September. Kindly return all forms to the school nurse if you want your child to be part of the program.
Seasonal Flu
A yearly flu vaccine is the the most important step in protecting yourself and your child against flu viruses. Vaccines usually become available in October. Students with asthma and chronic health conditions are at risk for complications from the flu. Students who have flu-like symptoms should stay home from school until fever-free for 24 hours (fever should be gone without the use of fever-reducing medication). Everyday preventative actions to stop the spread of germs include:
- Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
- Wash hands often with soap and water
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them

Sight for StudentsThe School Nurse has Sight for Student certificates available in the nurse office for a student who is uninsured and in need of an eye exam. Please stop by or call the nurse's office to learn more about the program. Vision screening is routinely done throughout the year. If your child does not pass his or her vision screening, an eye exam is recommended.

News from the Nurse
Cold and Flu season is upon us! Remember WASHING YOUR HANDS is the number one way to prevent the spread of germs. Always wash your hands before eating, after using the bathroom and coming in contact with anyone whom is coughing or sneezing. It is best to wash your hands with soap and water, but you can also use alcohol-based hand sanitizers when soap and water are not available.
